Sunsets

The is the pond outside an office block in Nottinghamshire. The big problem with this shot is the main road just beyond the pond. Timing was all to avoid the traffic as it went past and get the sense of calm and tranquility.

An office block in Nottinghamshire at sunset in June. This is actually 3 shots which have been stitched together to get the complete effect getting the reflections in the windows and the pond.

This shot looks out from New Eastwood, Nottingham toward Ilkeston. Shot just after sunset I particularly like the pastel shades in the sky and the silouhetting of the cloud. |

As many will know Nottinghamshire had a major mining industry. This is a monument at Brinsley, Nottinghamshire to the miners. Shot away from the setting sun and exposed for the sky there is just a touch of detail in the wheel. The sky has been enhanced in Photoshop to increase the contrast and deepen the g=red glow.

Shot the same time as the picture above the has had less manipulation although the wheel has been darkened using levels to give a starker silhouette.

Bamburgh Castle in Northumberland shot just after the sun set looking toward Berwick-upon-Tween. I've cloned out a couple of highlights in the foreground and again darkened the foreground to give more emphasis to the sky.

Bamburgh Beach. I was actally walking to take the picture of the castle when this caught my eye. This picture is as it came off the camera (save a crop).

Early August 2004 and we were returning from Manchester. As we climbed over Woodhead Pass the sun was just setting and this was taken from one of the laybys at the highest part of the pass. I've darkend the foreground and warned the sky which I think makes a very striking sunset.

This is Heanor church shot from New Eastwood just after sunset. THese two shots are untouched except that I've cropped out the clutter from the foreground.

Another shot of Heanor from New eastwood. Taken a few minutes after the picture above.

Another shot of Eastwood church. This is taken from the Erewash canal. Unfortunately the original shot was uninspiring so I've "played" a little to hopefully produce something original.

This is another of those shots that you don't expect. This was taken at work because someone pointed out that at the setting sun through the window. I've cropped the clutter from the foreground and darkened the image slightly otherwise this is as taken. |

This, I confess is not all it appears to be. The original didn't work at all so I tweked the levels to get the tree as I wanted it and then I've played with the sky to get the rich reds and oranges. In the end it looks nothing like the original but that said I like the effect I've created. |

This is another picture that isn't what it appears to be. However this time I've posted the starting pictures as well. The Church at Greasley was taken at lunch time on a particularly cold December day. As you can see there is no detail in the sky and I felt I needed to rescue it. Having tried a number of blue skies I decided to try a sunset I took in June 2004. By cutting out the old sky and then playing with levels, saturation and colour balance of both pictures individually and then as a whole I think I have created an image that works |
